In the Field - Conservation International

In the Field

CI has offices in more than 30 countries, more than 1,000 partner organizations, and thousands of projects worldwide.

Our staff of scientists, project managers and policy experts explores, develops, and funds innovative projects that protect the land- and seascapes that provide vital benefits both locally and globally.

We are in Raja Ampat, Abrohlos, Andasibe, Tonle Sap Lake and the Nangaritza River. Our field work includes expeditions to remote places that are the strongholds of biodiversity, and helps local communities protect the forests, rivers, lakes, mangroves and wetlands that provide shelter, fresh water, food, carbon storage and protection from storms. CI leverages those discoveries and experience to rally public engagement and call on governments to secure the sustainable management of vast swaths of abundant, threatened ocean and sea.

The planet is our backyard. The planet is our office. Explore and see how we’re protecting the most valuable places on Earth.

Regions

Our scientists, economists, communicators, and educators are working in more than 40 countries around the globe. Since one place is clearly different from the next, we’re not out there alone.

Wherever possible, we’ve sought out governments, businesses, communities, and organizations at all levels to make sure that our conservation planning accounts for each region’s unique needs and values. Because for these plans to last, they can’t just be ours, they have to be yours. Learn how we’re working together on every continent.

Oceans

If it’s raining where you are, the oceans played a role. If you drove to work, the seas are absorbing the carbon dioxide from your car. If you ordered seafood for lunch, it may have traveled halfway around the world to land on your plate.

No matter where you live on Earth, what you do affects the oceans – and what happens to the oceans affects you.

Expeditions & Discovery

Scientists have documented and described over 1.75 million species on our planet but they estimate that there are as many as five to 30 million more yet to be discovered. Conservation International (CI) is working deep in the world’s rainforests, savannahs, mountains, rivers and oceans to uncover and identify them.
