Helping biodiversity thrive in one of the world's most modern cities
Despite being one of the most highly developed countries in Asia-Pacific, tiny Singapore maintains a surprisingly rich variety of plants and animals. Often described as a “City in Nature,” Singapore’s efforts to protect biodiversity in an urbanized environment set an example for other cities in meeting their climate and sustainability goals.
Conservation International-Singapore is committed to supporting Singapore’s development as a leading hub for nature markets by offering policy advice and channeling capital and investments into nature-based solutions. These solutions include conservation programs that support carbon sequestration, improve food security and community livelihoods, and protect biodiversity in critical ecosystems around the world.
Operating out of Singapore, the Asia-Pacific Carbon Team and the International Blue Carbon Institute were set up by Conservation International to unlock the full potential of nature-based solutions in Asia-Pacific in the fight against climate change. We support carbon project development across a diverse portfolio of nature-based projects with end-to-end technical, financial, and strategic support from project origination through implementation. We also partner governments, local communities and the global scientific network in conservation efforts of blue carbon ecosystems. In addition to our carbon teams, our Singapore-based freshwater conservation and sustainable finance experts are unlocking new ways to finance ecosystem restoration in the long term.
Highlight project
Inspiring the next generation of climate storytellers
In 2023, in partnership with the National Youth Council of Singapore, Conservation International-Singapore launched Studio Zero, a storytelling program designed for youth passionate about climate and nature.
The program helps young climate storytellers sharpen their mobile content creation skills to craft powerful short stories that inspire hope, positivity and action for our planet. Participants learn how to create compelling, climate-focused audio and video stories for mobile platforms, including pre-production storyboarding, video editing and post-production marketing strategies.
The stories bring energy to global conservation events such as 2023's Earthshot Week, where global leaders, members of Indigenous communities and Studio Zero participants discussed ways to protect and restore our planet. Studio Zero creates a network of young climate storytellers who will advocate for a healthy planet and inspire a future of zero waste — for the benefit of everyone.
