Conservation International was invited to join this informal event organized by the European Commission, and to present innovative conservation approaches that can bring major contributions to human well-being.
Frank Hawkins, CI’s Senior Vice President for Africa & Madagascar, presented a practical example of how development can be achieved in synergy with the natural environment, showcasing Liberia: Moving from a Low Carbon to green Economy.
The European Commission presented the TEEB report (The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity, partly funded by the Commission), which is the most comprehensive effort ever in evaluating the economic value of the world’s biodiversity and the costs of inaction to protect it.
