Jenny Hewson

Senior Director, Habitat Monitoring and Climate Mitigation, Moore Center for Science

Jenny Hewson is the Senior Director of Habitat Monitoring and Climate Mitigation within the Betty and Gordon Moore Center for Science. She co-leads the Geospatial Analysis team and she directs research for monitoring changes in ecosystem extent and condition using remote sensing technologies.

Jenny has over ten years of experience at Conservation International conducting technical training of remote sensing for habit monitoring and leading the development of methodologies and technical guidelines for climate mitigation. She leads Conservation International’s partnership with the USGS SilvaCarbon program, collaborates on implementing site-scale REDD initiatives, and provides technical guidance on Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) for the development of national forest monitoring systems for REDD+.  In addition, Jenny collaborates closely with Conservation International’s Center for Environmental Leadership in Business in developing geospatial methodologies that inform sustainable sourcing initiatives.

Jenny holds a B.S. and M.S. in Geography from University of Maryland. Jenny’s research expertise focuses on remote sensing methods for improved deforestation detection, land use change, monitoring habitat condition, and climate mitigation.
