Senior Vice President, Global Policy and Government Relations

James Roth is Senior Vice President for Global Policy and Government Relations, overseeing Conservation International’s U.S. Government Relations and International Policy teams, as well as its Distinguished Fellows Program.

Previously, Roth led Government Affairs for Starbucks, where he advanced the company’s diverse policy agenda in Washington on ethical sourcing, sustainability, tax, trade and all elements of Starbucks’ social impact work. Roth has extensive experience in domestic and international policy and government affairs, having served as Chief of Staff and Legislative Director for Senator Evan Bayh, and advancing trade policy in Africa, Asia and Latin America with the Office of the United States Trade Representative. At Conservation International, Roth leads policy efforts with an emphasis on nature-based climate solutions and sustainable landscapes and seascapes, spearheading outreach to high-level government officials and staff in the United States and worldwide.​
