The program began with CI's Executive Vice President and Senior Scientist M. Sanjayan describing the important series "Years of Living Dangerously," which highlighted the dangerous rise of sea levels on Christmas Island. Tom Friedman and His Excellency President Anote Tong took stage next to discuss the challenges that the island country of Kiribati is facing. As Kiribati is only two meters above sea level, it is dealing with frequent floods and polluted groundwater. Many villages have already been abandoned. His Excellency's environmental leadership has resonated across the region and on the world stage.

The evening closed with remarks from CI's Chairman & CEO Peter Seligmann and President & CEO of NRG Energy David Crane, who had a hopeful conversation about NRG Energy's important transformation from coal and nuclear energy to solar power and natural gas.
