Toyota Motor Corporation
Toyota Motor Corporation and Conservation International are currently working to operationalize a social and financial mechanism to sustain project activities in the Philippines’ Peñablanca Protected Landscape and Seascape (PPLS), even after the project funding ended in 2013, for the long-term benefits to the environment and to the local communities.
Located in the Northeastern part of the Island of Luzon, Toyota is not only financially supporting Conservation International’s effort to restore and protect the forest, but also working together with Conservation International to achieve the highest possible conservation outcomes. In December 2009, Toyota and Conservation International announced that this 3,000-hectare (7,000-acre) project was validated at the Gold level under the Climate, Community and Biodiversity (CCB) Standards, which marked a significant milestone for Conservation International and Toyota’s partnership. The project contributes to the protection of the largest remaining tract of natural forest in one of the world's megadiverse countries, with full participation of local communities. The experiences from the project are informing national-level policymaking about REDD+.
