Nestlé

Conservation International and Nestlé S.A. teamed up to create the Deforestation Guides for Commodity Sourcing (or, Guides). The Guides were developed to allow Nestlé and other consumer based companies to have greater information where deforestation may be occurring. Additionally, they are intended to help provide much needed information to the 400+ member companies of the Consumer Goods Forum (CGF) that have committed to achieving zero-net deforestation from global supply chains by 2020.

In 2012, Nestlé began working with Conservation International to analyze top commodity producing countries most affected by deforestation. From there, we performed an extensive review of existing research and data to begin strengthening the link with agricultural sourcing and deforestation. The result is the Guides, which include a 32 country in-depth analysis at the sub-regional level that provides Nestlé with significant data to help prioritize its sustainable sourcing commitments. Additionally, we performed some initial research linking regional deforestation to agricultural sourcing in each country based on its own research and data collection.
