What: Release of 250 turtle hatchlings
When: 8 a.m. local Bali time Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007 (7 p.m. EST Dec 12, 2007)
Where: Melia Bali Hotel beach, Nusa Dua
Who: Head of Badung Regency, Natural Resources Unit of Badung Regency, Kuta Turtle Conservation Group, Serangan Turtle Conservation Group and technical support from Conservation International
Why: Climate change and other human-induced threats are reducing sea turtle populations around the world. To promote conservation of these remarkable marine species that date back millions of years, hatchlings of olive ridley and green sea turtles will be released to begin the journey traveled by their ancestors since the prehistoric era.
This is a unique visual opportunity to report biodiversity conservation on Bali.
