コンサベーション・インターナショナル(CI)は、日本での事業を統括するカントリーディレクターを1名募集します:

ジャパン・カントリーディレクターは、少人数のチームを率いてCIジャパンの事業の統括・開発・管理を担うほか、一般社団法人CIジャパンの代表理事を兼務します。

【募集職種】 カントリーディレクター

【募集職種の主な業務内容】

CIの日本での事業活動全体の統括・開発・管理、特にCIジャパンによる資金調達(ファンドレイジング)、本部やアジア太平洋部門との調整・連携の主導、戦略立案・実施、対外的発信、スタッフのマネジメントなど。

  • CIジャパンの事業活動全体の戦略立案および実行監理(含む、予算作成・財務管理)
  • いわゆる途上国を中心とするCIのグローバルな事業活動のためのファンドレイジング
  • 主に日本国内の企業や政府機関、個人サポーター、研究機関、その他ステークホルダーとのパートナーシップ構築
  • 講演・執筆・メディア露出などの対外発信・広報・コミュニケーション活動
  • 本部、アジア・太平洋部門との連携・調整
  • CIジャパンスタッフ(現在専従スタッフ7名+インターン生)の人事管理
  • その他、必要に応じた業務

【応募資格】

  • 環境学、経済・経営学・公共政策等、関連分野における修士号またはそれに相当する実務経験
  • 12年以上の日本のビジネス環境での実務経験(特に企業サステナビリティ、ESG、非営利セクターにおけるファンドレイジングなど、またはそれに相当する分野・経験)
  • 国際開発協力や地球環境問題(特に気候変動や生物多様性)に関する理解・知識・情熱
  • 多様なステークホルダーとの関係構築(含む企業・企業経営者、政府機関、個人資産家・サポーター、研究機関)に資する対人関係構築能力・高度なコミュニケーション能力
  • 少数精鋭のチームを統率・管理する人事能力・経験
  • 多様で国際的な組織・業務・職場環境での業務経験
  • 複数業務の管理、変化への対応能力
  • 途上国を含む海外への頻繁な出張が可能なこと
  • ビジネスレベルの日本語力と英語力、高い文章力・読解力(TOEIC850点相当以上)
  • 【下記経験や能力は選考の際特別に考慮】
  • いわゆる開発途上国(特にアジア太平洋地域)での実務経験
  • 国連等の国際機関・多国籍機関、外資系企業ふくむ海外機関またはその日本法人等での実務経験
  • 国内外の環境・サステナビリティ分野の研究機関やネットワーク、関連する国際条約等に関する知識やネットワーク、参加経験など
  • 国際開発協力事業や気候変動対策プロジェクト(特にREDD+・ブルーカーボンなど)の知識・経験

【条件等】

  • 報酬: CIの給与・報酬規定に従い、応募者の能力・経験を考慮して決定(年俸制)
  • 休日: 土日、日本の祝祭日、年末年始(12月31日~1月3日)、特別休暇
  • 初年度有給休暇: 15日(加えて3日間の特別休暇と12日間の傷病休暇あり)
  • 契約期間: 無期雇用
  • 業務時間: 9時半~18時(但し、変形労働時間制あり。時短勤務等、応相談)
  • 福利厚生: 健康保険、厚生年金加入。雇用保険、労災保険の適用あり。退職金制度あり。通勤交通費支給
  • 勤務地: CIジャパン事務所(東京都新宿区)。但し、現在は基本的に在宅勤務体制実施中。国内外への出張(途上国、フィールドを含む)あり。
  • なるべく早期の勤務開始を希望。

ABOUT CONSERVATION INTERNATIONAL

Conservation International (CI) has been protecting nature for the benefit for all, for over 30 years. With offices in more than 30 countries, a global team of 1000+ and a track record of supporting projects everywhere, from the waters of the Pacific to the sands of sub-Saharan Africa, CI is well positioned to promote conservation where it is needed most: all over the world.  Building upon a strong foundation of science, partnership, CI empowers societies to responsibly and sustainably care for nature, for the wellbeing of humanity. Our plan for its protection includes leveraging cutting-edge science to shift national policies, allying with local communities to improve livelihoods and working with worldwide partners to affect meaningful change on a global scale.

CI was first established in Japan in 1990 as an affiliate program of CI, and then legally registered in 2011 as a general incorporated association with focus on policy work, corporate partnership development, and fundraising for the global conservation work of CI.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

CI is seeking an experienced and dynamic professional to lead our CI Japan team. The position is responsible for CI Japan (CIJ)’s overall strategic planning and management, fundraising, relationship management with existing & potential donors/partners, and management of projects with a particular focus on fundraising for the global conservation work of CI.  The position represents CI’s interests in front of (potential) donors, partners, government officials, general public, and all other stakeholders in Japan. 

The position is also responsible for leading and managing the CI Japan team, comprising 8 staff, coordinating with interdisciplinary teams regionally and globally as well as outside partners. He/she works with a high degree of independence.

The position also concurrently serves as the Representative Director of the locally registered general incorporated association (一般社団法人) to fulfill legal obligations.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Strategic planning and management of CI Japan.  This includes leading the development of CIJ strategies and the annual planning (budgeting and work plan development) processes; representing CI as necessary and as appropriate to external stakeholders in Japan and in the region. As part of CI’s global leadership, engage in periodic global/regional leadership meetings (both in-person and remotely), and contribute to institutional leadership, and align and position CIJ globally
  • Relationship development and fund raising. This includes leading the cultivation and development of potential donors across various sectors, including, but not limited to, corporate philanthropic and foundation grants, carbon finance, private sector partnerships and high net-worth individuals; managing relationships with current donors in coordination with the fund receiving programs within CI (namely the field programs) and managing relationships with regards to Government of Japan’s contribution to CEPF, with scope of replenishment.  The Country Director guides and supervises the Development Manager.
  • Program and project implementation/impact oversight. The Country Director provides high-level strategic oversight of projects funded by CIJ managed donors; leads the overall management and oversees daily management of donor/partner relationships and as appropriate, takes on the role of account / relationship manager.
  • External communications and outreach.  He/she works with CI Japan communications team & leads the development and execution of external communications and outreach work, including management of owned media, mass-media relationships, outreach opportunities.  He/she assumes spokesperson role for CI in front of Japanese audiences, including as speaker at seminar/events, conferences and government committees, and media
  • Operations oversight.   Maintain oversight for CI Japan operational execution as delivered by the Operations team.

     

    PEOPLE AND RESOURCE MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage team of 8 staff members with diverse backgrounds and capabilities, including at least 3 direct reports
  • The position is the ultimate representative of CI in Japan; therefore represents CI with authorities, representatives of international organizations, private sector senior management, donors and partners in Japan
  • This position has the authority to make decisions regarding the management of the CI Japan’s resources within the approved budget, workplan, and delegated authorities, and is autonomous to directly contact colleagues and technical support from the Headquarters and Field Divisions/Programs. Ensures compliance with donor requirements and CI policies.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Required (critical to successful job performance.  Applicants not meeting required skills may not be hired)

    Education:

  • Graduate degree in law, business, environmental sciences or economics,  climate change,  government policy, corporate sustainability, marketing or similar

    Experience:

  • Strong experience in executive business functions (private sector or non-profit) and ideally with a focus on corporate sustainability, ESG or sustainable finance, AND/OR demonstrated track record of successful fundraising in Japan and/or for not-for-profit sector
  • Strong understanding of international development and global environmental issues (eg. biodiversity loss, climate change)
  • At least 12 years professional experience in the Japanese business environment in one or more of the abovementioned fields
  • Proven ability to engage with a variety of external partners and key stakeholders in NGOs, governments, private sector, high net worth individuals, funding institutions and foundations in Japan as well as internationally
  • Experience convening and leading a broad range of individuals, and leading team of at least 8 people
  • Excellent skills and experience in working in culturally/internationally diverse working environment
  • Working experience in Japan with successful track record

  • Advanced analytical and strategic thinking skills due to the high level of job complexity and responsibility
  • Excellent presentation, communications, and networking skills
  • Able to effectively work in a team across the full diversity of CI’s global multicultural, multidisciplinary teams to produce concrete results
  • Excellent oral and written skills in English and Japanese
  • Ability to develop good working relationship with senior level corporate and government officials, high net-worth individuals
  • Strong networks with CI’s stakeholders in Japan, including the government and private sector


    Preferred:

  • Experience working in developing countries, particularly in the Asia Pacific region
  • Experience working in international/multilateral organizations, US-led organizations and/or international NGOs, especially in Japan offices/entities of foreign organizations
  • Good understanding of and networks with influential environment/sustainability related institutions and networks in the region and globally
  • Understanding of developing climate/carbon projects including REDD+/blue carbon and/or international development aid projects

  • Working status in Japan

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Local and/or international travel of 30% or more, at times in difficult travel conditions.

  • Ability to work in remote locations or under difficult working conditions.
