If you like bird song, you must be an early riser as many species – usually the males – use the rising sun as an opportunity to reestablish their territory or attract the attention of passing females. This activity will wane as the day progresses and temperatures rise. But as night falls, nocturnal species like owls and nightjars, compelled by the same urges, become active. Their calls mix with the sounds of insects and frogs to compose an entirely different soundscape.

We make an impact: In our nearly 40-year history, we have helped to place under formal protections 13 million square kilometers of vital lands and seas.

Protect critical ecosystems like this.
