Guyana

Guyana’s tropical forests cover almost 90 percent of its land and are home to 225 mammal species and 6,000 species of plants. Towering more than 30 meters (100 feet) above the forest floor, old-growth trees such as the silk cotton (ceiba) provide habitats for the winged giant of the forest: the harpy eagle, which has a wingspan of up to six and a half feet. Other Amazonian giants in this area include the giant armadillo, jaguar, capybara (the world’s largest rodent) and anaconda (the world’s heaviest snake).
