Blueyou
Restorative and sustainable seafood supply chains
Globally, artisanal fisheries and small-scale aquaculture face over-exploitation, poor management, and limited market access, threatening marine ecosystems and the livelihoods of millions of coastal communities. At the same time, consumer demand for certified sustainable seafood is rising, yet supply chains often fail to deliver traceable, environmentally responsible products at scale. Mangrove ecosystems, crucial for healthy shrimp and crab populations, are also under threat from deforestation and unsustainable coastal development.
THE COMPANY
Founded in 2005, Blueyou is a purpose-driven seafood company building sustainable and restorative seafood supply chains across Southeast Asia. The company operates integrated sourcing, processing, and distribution channels, partnering with artisanal fishers and smallholder aquaculture operators. Blueyou’s Meliomar Philippines subsidiary focuses on two key initiatives: Selva Shrimp, a mangrove-positive black tiger prawn program, and Artesmar, a community-based fisheries program providing traceable, responsibly sourced seafood. Both programs prioritise ecosystem restoration, sustainable production practices, and fair-trade livelihoods for local communities.
THE INVESTMENT
CI Ventures has invested $500,000 to support the expansion of Blueyou’s Meliomar Philippines operations. Funding will scale the Selva Shrimp and Artesmar programs, enabling broader mangrove-positive aquaculture, stronger community fisheries engagement, and increased export capacity. The investment will also facilitate the continued development of sustainable supply chains, compliance monitoring, and brand-building initiatives to reach retail, hospitality, and export markets.
THE IMPACT
This investment is expected to:
- Expand restorative mangrove aquaculture across 50,000 hectares and restore an additional 15,000 hectares.
- Engage over 5,000 additional farmers in sustainable aquaculture practices.
- Improve fisheries management and support livelihoods of more than 40,000 fishermen in 300 coastal communities.
- Deliver fully traceable, ethically sourced seafood to markets in Southeast Asia, North America, and Europe.
