She specializes in tree restoration and agroforestry, supporting science-based tree restoration efforts across the tropics. She has published research on the climate benefits of increased tree cover, natural forest regeneration and carbon removal ecosystems. She also contributed to chapters on climate-smart farming and grazing in the Exponential Roadmap for Natural Climate Solutions and leads global tree restoration monitoring and strategies at Conservation International.
Starry received her Ph.D. from the University of California at Davis. Before joining Conservation International in 2020, she spent 15 years working in the humanitarian-development nexus in Haiti. While in Haiti, she launched a community-based agroforestry program in the Artibonite Valley and led innovative programming in natural climate solutions including climate-smart resilience, mitigation and adaptation.
