Kathleen Flower
Kathleen Flower, Ph.D., is Vice President of Biodiversity Science at Conservation International's Betty and Gordon Moore Center for Science and Solutions, where she leads a global team advancing the science, tools, and partnerships needed to conserve biodiversity and support people and nature to thrive together.
Her work focuses on helping decision-makers use science, data, and technology to effectively reduce and reverse biodiversity loss, climate-driven extinction risk, and ecosystem degradation.
With more than 25 years of experience across Africa, Asia, and the Americas, Flower has worked at the intersection of biodiversity science, conservation practice, policy, and investment. She has partnered with governments, NGOs, foundations, multilateral organizations, and private-sector actors to design science-based strategies that improve conservation outcomes and strengthen the evidence used to guide environmental decision-making.
At Conservation International, Flower leads a biodiversity science strategy focused on biodiversity monitoring, climate adaptation, reducing extinction risk, nature-positive development, biodiversity finance, and technology-enabled conservation science. She works closely with global partners including conservation organizations, governments, and research institutions to advance practical solutions for protecting species and ecosystems in a rapidly changing world.
Flower holds a Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Cape Town and has authored numerous scientific and technical publications. She is based in the Washington, D.C., area.
