July 16, 2025

ARLINGTON, Va. (July 16, 2025) – Conservation International today announced Len Costa as its new chief marketing and communications officer (CMCO). Costa will lead Conservation International's brand and communications team, leveraging global storytelling to protect nature for the benefit of people and the planet.

“Communications is constantly evolving – and in today's complex media landscape, stories must not only break through but motivate change,” said Costa. “I’m honored to join Conservation International at a pivotal time when climate change and biodiversity loss are reshaping our world. Never has it been more urgent to ensure our message reaches the right audiences and drives impact. To protect nature at scale, we must work with governments, businesses and philanthropies to make lasting progress.”

Costa brings extensive experience at the intersection of impact and communications. Most recently, he served as a partner at RooneyPartners, where he built the firm’s digital marketing, content and social media capabilities for mission-driven clients worldwide. Costa previously served as head of communications and content strategy at CFA Institute and as director of interactive media at the Institute for Private Investors. He began his career as a journalist with Institutional Investor, Worth and Fortune.

As the new CMCO, Costa will elevate Conservation International's global voice through strategic communications, brand management and stakeholder engagement.

"Storytelling is at the heart of what we do at Conservation International. Communication is one of the most powerful tools to inspire action. It helps people connect to nature and the communities working every day to conserve it,” said Conservation International CEO Dr. M Sanjayan. "Len has decades of experience distilling complex issues into clear, engaging narratives and working with international mission-oriented clients. He has a proven record of building digital brands from the ground up to grow institutional impact. We are thrilled to welcome him to the team."

Costa's experience in guiding executive communications, building brand strategies and aligning messaging across regions uniquely fits Conservation International's global culture.
