Jorge Ramos, Ph.D.

Former Manager, Oceans and Climate, Center for Oceans

Jorge manages the Blue Carbon Initiative, including the International Blue Carbon Scientific Working Group, and supports coastal adaptation and mitigation projects globally.

Jorge earned his Ph.D. in Environmental Life Sciences at Arizona State University. Prior to his doctoral studies, Jorge received his Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science from the University of Texas at El Paso, completed his Master of Science from the School of Forest Resources at the University of Washington, Seattle and worked for the Ecological Society of America in Washington, D.C.

For his Ph.D. studies, Jorge focused his studies in understanding the ecohydrology of spring-fed ecosystems in Cuatro Cienegas, Mexico, and in quantifying greenhouse gas fluxes of CO2, CH4, and N2O under different management strategies from a constructed treatment wetland.

Jorge is also a working group member and advisor for International Network of Next-Generation Ecologists (INNGE), Strategies for Ecology Education, Diversity and Sustainability (ESA-SEEDS), and Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS).
