Blue Nature Alliance

Oceans

The Blue Nature Alliance supports projects focused on the creation, expansion or improved management of ocean conservation areas — from coastal ecosystems to broader open ocean areas — to help the world achieve 30 percent ocean conservation by 2030.

To reach this goal, the Blue Nature Alliance works closely with NGOs, government, Indigenous people and local communities, and scientists to support effective large-scale marine conservation.

The Blue Nature Alliance is a collaboration led by Conservation International, The Pew Charitable Trusts, the Global Environment Facility, Minderoo Foundation and the Rob and Melani Walton Foundation. In addition to its core partners, the Blue Nature Alliance is growing a network that includes local partners, scientists, technical experts, and financial strategists.

18M

SQUARE KILOMETERS

The Blue Nature Alliance aims to catalyze the conservation of 18 million square kilometers of ocean in five years.

Funding ocean conservation

With an eye toward projects that benefit people and nature, the Blue Nature Alliance works to catalyze the creation of new areas and improve the management of marine protected areas and other innovative marine conservation areas. Working with our partners, we aim to create sustainable financing models for these projects — critical to delivering the long-term ocean protection the world needs.
