Luis Espinel
Vice President, Conservation International-Peru
He joined Conservation International in 1999 as a technical assistant, and has served as executive director and vice president for CI-Peru since 2008. During this time, Luis has worked in sustainable development and natural resources management within and outside protected areas, partnering with Indigenous communities and federations, governments, civil society and the private sector. Additionally, he has led the implementation of biological diversity and sustainable development programs in the Peruvian Amazon.
Luis graduated with a specialty in the management of forests and conservation from Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina (UNALM) in Peru, where he worked as a teacher for five years. He is a member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature's World Commission on Protected Areas and sits on the board of the Peruvian National Protected Areas Service (SERNANP).
