Over the past decade at Conservation International, Luis has led and strengthened innovative partnerships — advancing community-led conservation initiatives that contribute to climate and biodiversity goals in more than 20 countries. Some notable partnerships include the Global Environment Facility's Inclusive Conservation Initiative and the Dedicated Grant Mechanism for Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities. Luis has been actively involved in UN climate policy as a member of Conservation International’s climate delegation. He has served on various advisory groups, including Guatemala's debt for nature swap under the Tropical Forest Conservation Act.
Luis is a native of Guatemala and is based in the United States. He holds a master's degree in agricultural and biological engineering from the University of Florida and a degree in agricultural sciences from EARTH University in Costa Rica.
