John Watkin is Grant Director for the Critical Ecosystems Partnership Fund. In this role, he works to support conservation projects that benefit both people and habitats in priority areas across the globe.
Besides grant-writing, John has also had experience with working in the field. Among his professional accomplishments, he counts successfully reintroducing a group of western lowland gorillas into the wild. He also developed a new system to analyze the data from aerial sample counts of large protected areas.
Prior to CEPF, he worked in East and Central Africa as a freelance ecologist and worked on improving protected area management, specifically in regards to the conservation of elephants, rhinos, gorillas, bonobos, buffalo, community conservation and ecotourism. John has his Masters is Advanced Ecology from the University of Durham, and wrote his thesis on greater flamingos.
