For the first time, a Peruvian natural protected area grants in its entirety, technical or university studies for the sons and daughters of Conservation Agreements subscribers.
During a special ceremony, the 15 young students received recognition as recipients of this funding and signed their study commitments to begin their professional careers at the educational institution of their choice. The Vice-governor of San Martin, municipal authorities and representatives of the educational institutions to where the students were admitted, were also present. Alongside them, were official leaders of the coffee cooperative of the Alto Mayo Protected Forest, who are financing two of these scholarships.
"It is a great emotion to see how these young students take advantage of this opportunity to grow as professionals and as allies for the conservation of this protected area," said Ivonne Paico, head of AMPF. Likewise, Fernando Guerra, Manager of the Administration Contract of Conservation International, highlighted the value of these educational scholarships to improve the livelihoods of the subscribing population of Conservation Agreements, emphasizing their importance to educate and shape students that are aware of the vital importance of caring for biodiversity and the environment, for the benefit of the Alto Mayo Protected Forest and its people.
The beneficiaries of this scholarship will be able to study a professional career with all academic expenses financed by the management of AMPF, in order to provide access to quality higher education, shaping the future professionals that contribute to the conservation of nature of the AMPF.
