Ecuador's MPA Project Ends with a Promise

A four-year initiative led by Conservation International, MAATE, and WildAid aimed to improve Ecuador's Marine and Coastal Protected Areas (MPAs), the Implementation of the Strategic Plan for the Network of Marine and Coastal Protected Areas of Ecuador project focused on MPA management with three components: network establishment, local integration, and mangrove connectivity conservation. 

The project had successful gender integration, which relied on early sensitization of protected area managers to prioritize gender equality. Lessons learned from workshops and presentations put on by gender specialists attributed to this Project Reflection piece by CI Ecuador on how incorporating gender dynamics was key to strengthening the knowledge of those who must integrate the gender approach into the project's actions.
