Karen Jo Riseng
Nationality: United States
Specialty: Limnology (the study of freshwater ecology)
Karen received her Masters of Science from the University of Michigan after 4 years in the business world.
How did she get interested in limnology? "I was interested originally in water toxicology after working as a volunteer in Australia, but I realized that was mainly lab work and that's not what I wanted to do." So Karen's career developed into wildlife toxicology surveys. She currently works on projects in Alaska and Cameroon.
What's next? After such a varied career so far, Karen considers, "I would be interested in teaching science at a high school level. They are old enough to understand complex topics."
