Franco graduated from the Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV) in 1980, and has been studying reproduction in catfish and electric fish. His enthusiastic cries of, "Mira! Look!" ring out every time a net is pulled in.
"My favorite area to study is the Guayana Shield. It has hardly been explored, and very few specimens have been taken in that area. There is high fish diversity and the land is in good condition with little human disturbance. Industrialization is bound to come to the Guayana Shield. I hope that it will come in a way that is compatible with the people who live there."
