| Carmelo Castro and Judith Rosales examine tree at Fiaka |
Botany basic tools
The canopy is so thick in most rainforests that you often cannot see the leaves of the tree that you want to identify. The Ye'kwana can identify many species by what leaches out of the bark.
Here botanist Judith Rosales and Ye'kwana Carmelo Castro examine the bark of a tree in Alto Caura. In addition, botanists take careful note of how the forest canopy is formed by making drawings in field notebooks.
