Basic botany tools:
Clippers, Fingers, Machete

"Here is an orchid!" cries botanist Wilmer Diaz as he deftly plucks the parasitic plant from its perch on the mossy trunk of this tree typical to flooded forest habitat.

Wilmer is curator of the Venezuelan Guyana herbarium, "I usually take three samples: one for the herbarium, one for the national herbarium, and one to send out to the experts."

Wilmer Diaz uses his fingers
to collect samples.

Larger samples are clipped off using clippers as shown. Once the plants have been collected, they are pressed between newspapers to be dried professionally in the city.
