Crab
Family Psedothelphusidae, species Fredius estenolobus. This species was recently described by Gilberto Rodriguez, a Venezuelan professor, a pioneer of crabs in the country.
Typical in South and Central America, the family is very diverse and has at least 13 species in the Guyana Shield. Many of these species are specific only to basins in which they inhabit – even a small basin may have its own species.
Scientists tend to believe that small differences in the shape of the gonopod between species creates genetic isolation in the population. This crab is found mainly in small rocky creeks.
