The common name for this Harttia sp. catfish is Corroncho o Tablitas. This is the first time this species has been recorded in Venezuela.
Both this fish and Chaetostoma vasquezi, the mouth of which is also shown, were found only right above the falls.
"It's very interesting," says Franco, Venezuela's catfish expert and AquaRAP team member, "probably there is something in the environment that makes just above the falls different. More studies are needed, especially in the dry season."
