Hoplias

These fish have extremely sharp teeth and lie in wait at the bottom of lakes to attack smaller fish. Surprisingly, this fish bites more people than piranhas, so keep your toes clear if Hoplias are dragged in with the net!

Finally, some Hoplias have an adaptive lung that can utilize air directly, and can therefore live in waters with very low levels of dissolved oxygen.
