Nutrient Filtering

John Sparks struggles with a water filter that is full of sediment.
Part of the limnologists' job is to measure the amount of sediment and organic matter suspended in the water.

The most efficient method of carrying this substance back to the lab is to pump it through a filter, which was previously weighed in the lab.

After a known amount of water (500 ml) is passed through, the filter is dried and taken back to the lab. The lab will then analyze the amount of sediment present as well as how much weight the filter took on.
