Caura River Expedition Day 14

December 10, 2000

These freshwater mollusks were common along
Caura beaches.
Snail

These mollusks are gastropods, or snails. Our team has not yet identified them to the species level because, as Guido tells me,

"At first thought, they might be typical of fast flowing river genus. However, they have some stripes in their shell that remind me of an introduced species. I will show it to senior professor back at the lab and will identify it then."

Snails are typical in rivers with sediment loads, especially clay, and also prefer fast flowing oxygenated water.
