Philip Willink
Nationality: United States
Specialty: General fish ecology
Phil will receive his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan on the evolution of feeding structures of bottom feeders.
He grew up in a rural area of Maine where he often spent time tracking animals like raccoons, deer, and rabbits. His father was a high school science teacher and a summer lobster fisherman so his first field experience was hauling lobster traps.
Phil works full time for AquaRAP at the Field Museum.
Would he like to go back and study more? "No, you reach a point at which it wouldn't do any good. What you learn you teach yourself. I can see myself settling down to teach biology in a small school."
