Shrimp
Macrobrachium brasiliensis
This specimen is a female (carrying approximately 20-60 eggs), and is widespread throughout Amazonia and Orinoco, from French Guayana to PerĂº.
Mainly found in clear waters, this shrimp species is usually associated with small creeks full of leaf litter and is one of four shrimp species we have encountered.
These shrimp are preyed upon by fishes, especially characids who quickly eat newly hatched and juveniles.
