Cast net (aterayes)

"My grandfather taught me to fish," Angel told me as he flicks his wrist with the expertise of a cowboy lassoing a calf. The net spirals out and lands in a perfect circle.

"I make the nets myself," Angel tells me. "It makes them easier to fix." Sure enough, when there is a tear in the threads near the lead weights at the wide bottom of the net, he expertly shows me how to use a shuttle made of PVC tubing to replace the nylon thread.
