DISNEYNATURE’S “MONKEY KINGDOM” FILM RELEASE ON BLU-RAY & DIGITAL HD SUPPORTS CI

For two decades, Conservation International and Disney have worked together to protect nature’s bounty to save threatened species and improve human well-being.

For 2015, CI and Disney have teamed up again. Disneynature has committed to make a donation through the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund to CI for every Blu-ray and Digital HD purchase of Monkey Kingdom during the first week of release (September 15-22, 2015). Disneynature fans in the U.S. and Canada will make the following conservation efforts possible in Sri Lanka, Cambodia and Indonesia:

In Java’s Gedepahala region, CI is working with local communities to create a “green wall” of trees that will serve as a protective buffer around two national parks (Gunung Gede Pangrango and Gunung Halimun Salak), which are home to many endangered species and serve as a critical watershed for 30 million people. The project also supports the Javan Gibbon Center, which rehabilitates gibbons rescued from the illegal pet trade and releases them back into the wild, and the Bodogol Conservation Education Center, which educates the local community and visitors about the importance of protecting the park’s watershed forests for wildlife — and people.

CI is working to protect 400,000 hectares (around 988,000 acres) of intact forests in the Central Cardamom Mountains and another 44,000 hectares (around 109,000 acres) in the Veun Sai region, two critical habitats for endangered primates and other species. This work includes supporting teams of community and forest rangers to patrol forests, alert officials about illegal logging activity and explain to people why the forest needs to remain intact and why they should not hunt primates.
