yungas – The lowland rainforest in the valleys of the eastern piedmont of the Andes Mountains (1,524-2,438 meters), from the Peru-Bolivia border southeast into Bolivia. Although isolated and very difficult to access, the yungas were a major source of rubber and quinine in the early 20th century. Coca, sugarcane and coffee are now grown there.
