As Director, Corporate Freshwater Strategies Marielle leads CI’s strategy to engage the private sector on freshwater conservation. She also works with partner companies to develop and implement environmental sustainability policies and strategies at the headquarters and business unit levels. Throughout over a decade with CI spanning the globe, Marielle has managed and advised on complex relationships between CI and large multinational companies across a variety of sectors, including oil & gas, hydropower, mining, food & agriculture, retail, financial, hospitality, and entertainment. She also advises CI field programs on corporate engagement strategies and projects.
 
Prior to joining CI, Marielle worked as an environmental, health and safety consultant, and held numerous positions in the public policy and government arenas. She holds a Masters of Environmental Management degree from Duke University and B.A. in Government and in Environmental Studies from the College of William and Mary. Her master’s research focused on the implementation of four mining companies’ corporate environmental policies and strategies to understand what positive, measurable impact their implementation had on the environment. During undergraduate coursework, Marielle researched environmental scarcity and conflict in East Africa’s Lake Victoria region and completed a semester with Columbia University at the Biosphere 2 Center in Arizona where she examined the links between water availability and urban sprawl.
 
Marielle sits on the Advisory Board for the Water Risk & Strategy Working Group at 2degrees Network and on the Grants Committee of the Catonsville Women’s Giving Circle.
