Habitat
Inhabit Lowland tropical rainforest, montane tropical rainforest, tropical monsoon, dry forest, primary and secondary, tropical dry deciduous and moist evergreen rain forest.

Physical Characteristics

  • Head and Body length: male – 435- 585 mm; female – 420-580 mm
  • Weight: male – 4970-7600 g; female – 4400-6800 g

Distinguishing features
Common name "white-handed gibbon" is given because they have white hair on their hands, coat can vary from cream to dark brown to black, white feet, white ring around their black hairless face.

Diet
Primarily fruit, but supplement diet with leaves, insets, flowers, new stems, shoots and buds.

Behavior
Primarily move by brachiation but when on the ground or on large branches move bipedally with arms in the air, diurnal, arboreal, form monogamous 1-male/1-female groups of 3 to 12 individuals.

Threats
Major threats include deforestation due in part to logging and agriculture, and hunted for meat.
