Habitat
Inhabit tropical evergreen rain forest with a preference for forest edges.

Physical Characteristics

  • Head and Body length: 265-380 m
  • Tail length: 13-25 mm
  • Weight: male – 1207 g; female – 1195 g

Distinguishing features
Considerable amount of color variation that ranges from gray to whitish, dark rings surround their eyes, a dark stripe runs from their head down their dorsal area.

Diet
Primarily eat fruit, but supplement diet with animal prey, gum, shoots, bird eggs, cocoa and insects.

Behavior
Nocturnal, arboreal, forage for food alone, vocalizations include a low buzzing hiss when disturbed and single low pitched rising notes used as a greeting, move by slow-climbing quadrupedal motion.

Threats
Hunting and deforestation from agriculture and logging.
