Habitat
They inhabit primary and secondary, swamp, bamboo and dry montane forest.

Physical Characteristics
  • Head and Body length: male – 560 mm (484-595 mm); female – 464 mm (394-543 mm)
  • Tail length: male – 691 mm (591-784 mm); female – 530 mm (470-574 mm)
  • Weight: male – 7800 g; female – 4458 g (4100-4816 g)

Distinguishing features
Coat is gray agouti, back is reddish brown, limbs and tail are black, rump, eyelids, muzzle, beard and a stripe on their thigh are white, forehead has an orange fading into black crest, the scrotum is distinctly blue.

Diet
Primarily eat fruit and seeds, but supplement diet with leaves, arthropods, flowers, mushrooms and animal prey such as reptiles, caterpillars and ants.

Behavior
Diurnal, arboreal and terrestrial, groups vary from a monogamous 1-male/ 1-female group to a 1-male/multi-female group, good swimmers, when predator is observed the male shakes branches, barks, and may even attack to divert attention from his group, diurnal.

Threats
Major threats include habitat destruction caused by agriculture and logging and excessive hunting for meat.
