December 2008: CI joined in announcing the launch of conservation commitments by WhiteWave, a Colorado-based leader in the organic and natural products sector. The announcement focused on sustainable production and sourcing practices for Silk® Soymilk and Horizon Organic® dairy products – two key WhiteWave consumer brands. CI advised WhiteWave on nature conservation aspects of the Silk Soybean Sourcing and Production Program (www.silksoymilk.com), which outlines strong environmental and social performance guidelines for soy production and supply chain management. 

Of particular interest to CI, the program goes beyond organic farming standards to incorporate additional measures for wildlife habitat conservation as well as provisions for enhancement of soil and water quality. CI also provided input on nature conservation issues within the Horizon Organic Standards of Care(www.horizonorganic.com), which govern farm practices on company-owned organic dairy farms in Idaho and Maryland.

August 2009: WhiteWave announced an extension of its ongoing partnership with CI for an additional three years to enhance the company’s efforts to ensure sustainable sourcing of agricultural products, and to promote improved livelihoods for farmers. This new phase will further their existing work with the Silk® and Horizon Organic® brands with the addition of activities related to International Delight® products.
