Toyota Motor Corporation

Toyota Motor Corporation and CI are currently working to operationalize a social and financial mechanism to sustain project activities in the Philippines' Peñablanca Protected Landscape and Seascape (PPLS) even after the project funding ends in 2013, for the long-term benefits to the environment and to the local communities.

Located in the Northeastern part of the Island of Luzon, Toyota is not only financially supporting CI's effort to restore and protect the forest, but also working together with CI to achieve the highest possible conservation outcomes. In December 2009, Toyota and CI announced that this 3000 hectare (over 7000 acres) project was validated at the Gold level under the Climate, Community and Biodiversity (CCB) Standards, which marks a significant milestone for CI and Toyota’s partnership. The project will contribute to the protection of the largest remaining tract of natural forest in one of the world's megadiverse countries, with full participation of local communities. The experiences from the project are informing the national-level policy making on REDD+.
