BP

BP is currently supporting the work of the Conservation Leadership Programme (CLP), a partnership of four organizations working to promote the development of future biodiversity conservation leaders.

LEARN MORE: CI's previous work with the BP Foundation around the CLP.

From 2006-2009, BP participated as a sponsor - and a member of the corporate consultative group - providing critical support and input into the development of the Integrated Biodiversity Assessment Tool (IBAT) for business.  This tool was developed in partnership with leaders from the conservation and business communities to facilitate access to critical biodiversity datasets for key decision-makers within the private sector.

BP was a member of the Energy & Biodiversity Initiative, which began in 2001 and ended in 2007, convened by CELB to promote best practices for integrating biodiversity conservation into upstream oil and gas development. During this time, CI advised BP as it was developing a new LNG operation: the BP Tangguh project in Western Papua. Based on CI’s advice, BP changed the planned route their tankers would travel to/from the Tangguh plant to avoid going through a narrow strait in the Raja Ampat Archipelago - one of the richest in the world for corals.

BP was also a sponsor of the Climate, Community and Biodiversity Alliance, a group of companies and NGOs committed to developing tools to combat climate change, while contributing to biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.

BP is one of the world's leading international oil and gas companies, providing its customers with fuel for transportation, energy for heat and light, retail services and petrochemicals products for everyday items. For more information about BP, please visit www.bp.com.
