Offield Center for Billfish Studies

The Offield Center for Billfish Studies (OCBS) began its work in 2000, and has since grown to become the world's largest research program dedicated to the study of billfish species. OCBS has deployed in excess of 400 satellite popup tags on billfish around the world to learn more about these magnificent fishes.

Although initial focus was on striped marlin off the coast of Mexico, recent years have seen the program expand to work on black marlin and, more recently, blue marlin.  Tagging sites include California, Mexico, Panama, Ecuador, Costa Rica, New Zealand and Australia.
