The acres protected and restored with Verde Ventures support provide critical habitat for 482 globally threatened species. The benefits increase dramatically when the impact on adjacent biologically diverse lands is factored into the equation. Altogether, our investments have helped tip the scales for more than 16 million hectares of priority land.
Highlights of results to date include:
- Conservation of high priority leatherback turtle nesting sites on Mexico’s Pacific coast and improving the number of needed conservation based employment opportunities through the financing of an expansion and working capital requirements at the Playa Viva ecolodge in Mexico – www.playaviva.com
- Expansion of our coffee portfolio into Peru with a particular focus on the Alto Mayo region. As part of this expansion, VV is providing harvest finance to a range of coffee cooperatives working with CI to provide access to markets for many small-holders in and around the Alto Mayo conservation area. Working in tandem with CI’s Conservation Stewards Program and the Carbon Fund, CI supported small-holders and SME’s are able to draw upon a range of services – from organic practices to finance and market access – in exchange for preventing further deforestation around this critical ecosystem.
- Rainforest buffer zone conservation around Mexico’s El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve, the nations last remaining could forest, through a series of financing rounds to sustainable coffee estates to support working capital requirements.
Our investments of $19.2 million to date also have enabled our business partners to generate sales of nearly $134 million.
