 SKEPPIES

SKEPPIES, a partnership between CI, the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) and CEPF, supports community projects that combine biodiversity conservation and economic growth.

The SKEPPIES logo was inspired by nature, and signifies our vision that everyone develops through nature conservation. The circular shape conveys our belief in strength through collaboration and the explosive elements convey the idea of excitement, innovation and vision for dynamic growth with the colours symbolising growth and life.

SKEPPIES is a small grants fund for the Succulent Karoo Ecosystem Programme that, through an innovative conservation-development partnership, supports economic development that values the natural capital of the Succulent Karoo. Through the sustainable use of natural resources, the Fund aims to assist entrepreneurs and community groups within priority corridors.

The SKEPPIES Small Grant Fund team, under the management of Conservation South Africa and guided by a management committee that is chaired by the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA), utilise their project and financial management skills to provide hands on support to a diverse range of grantees.

With a specific focus on empowering women and the youth, SKEPPIES beneficiaries are, amongst others, NGO’s, community organizations, the private sector, faith-based organizations, government, parastatals, and individuals working towards a good cause.

Our work is focused in priority landscape-scale corridors that conserve ecosystem processes and buffer species and people against climate change.

FOCUS

SKEPPIES is about supporting people to become stewards of and to benefit from the conservation and sustainable use of their natural resources.

PROJECTS

All SKEPPIES projects are required to show conservation benefits, including the total number of endangered and unique species conserved, hectares protected and better land managed.

CLIMATE DIARIES

The climate diary process, initially started by Indigo Change and Development’s work with small-scale rooibos farmers, has been hugely successful as part of SKEPPIES.

PARTNERS

We work with an extensive partnership network of over 12 organizations. These include government organisations, NGO’s, development organisations, businesses and conservation agencies.

FUNDING

SKEPPIES funds projects which jointly contribute to nature conservation and development, need start-up funding, support entrepreneurship, support business development and form part of other projects in the SKEP priority regions.

SKEPPIES PUBLICATIONS

Read reports from SKEPPIES projects and workshops, including the climate diaries and Adaptation to Climate Change meetings.
