Protecting Fresh Water and Forests in China

CI and Marriott International help rural communities in southwest China

New hives in Pingwu, China

It's fascinating how interconnected plants, animals — and people — are to the environment.

Did you know that quality honey requires that bees have access to clean air and fresh water? That's one of the reasons why CI and Marriott International began working together two years ago in the mountains of southwest China to help rural communities start sustainable businesses that reduce strains on natural resources, especially fresh water and forests.

The project provides villagers with the resources and training needed to start bee farming and clean the local waterways, which in turn ensures that bees have plenty of flowering plants and clean water. The quality honey produced by these farms is now available for purchase in most Marriott International hotels in China, and soon will be available in their Hong Kong hotels as well.
