Mahlette has worked for Conservation International (CI) for over six years. During this time she has facilitated relationships between CI and several leading companies in the energy and mining sector and around the world. Mahlette leads the management of strategic partnerships, for companies such as BHP Billiton, ExxonMobil and Newmont Mining, focused on both corporate sustainability and country level initiatives on biodiversity. In her capacity as Senior Manager, she advises partners on development of biodiversity policies and strategies, and environmental and social best practices. She has managed the Energy and Biodiversity Initiative (EBI), a global-level initiative that integrates biodiversity conservation into oil and gas development. As a member of the Secretariat for the Business and Biodiversity Offsets Program, Mahlette supported the team in fundraising, project management as well as working directly on the design of offsets for pilot projects in Ghana and Madagascar.
Prior to joining CI, Mahlette worked in the environmental consulting field advising government agencies on how to develop and implement environmental management systems based on the ISO 14001 Standard. Mahlette has completed a Masters Degree in Environmental Studies from York University, Toronto, Ontario, CA and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Biology from Queens University, Kingston, Ontario, CA.
