Conservation International hosted one of its most successful fundraisers ever for its Eighth Annual New York Dinner on May 3, 2005. With more than 800 guests, the event raised over $1.5 million for CI’s conservation efforts around the world.
Held at the Pierre Hotel on Central Park, guests were treated to a high-octane, high-protein program including hamburgers and the world premiere of CI’s stunning new video “Can’t Close Our Eyes.” Click on the link to the right to see it now.
Narrated by CI board member Harrison Ford, the video was introduced to the audience by ‘Today Show’ anchor Katie Couric. The evening continued with a discussion between investing giant Warren Buffett and musical legend Jimmy Buffett, moderated by former NBC News luminary and author Tom Brokaw. After hearing the Buffetts discuss their passion for issues, such as overpopulation and conservation of the oceans, the guests were treated to a two-song duet with Warren on the ukulele and Jimmy on the guitar.
After the Buffetts played "Hey Good Lookin'" and "Ain't She Sweet," Jimmy Buffett performed four solo songs including “Margaritaville” and a stirring rendition of Bob Marley’s “No Woman No Cry.”
Music, conservation, humor, and star power all came together in New York City for an exceptionally successful evening in honor of protecting the Earth's biodiversity. It was a night that few attendees will forget.
